I had these leathers custom made in 1973 at a cost of over $400. By my inflation calculator that's $2,830 in today's dollars. I didn't try to match all the features of these leather to anything on the Bates website, but from general prices notice today leathers like this would be 5-6 times than what I'm asking.
At the time (and I wished again) I was 5' 10" weighing about 185 lbs. I believe I wore either a 38 or 40 suit. I'll give you measurements that I took as best as I could.
JACKET:
Neck 16"
Shoulder to cuff 24"
Armpit to cuff 18"
Shoulder to shoulder (over top at back of neck) 21"
Length from bottom of collar 26"
PANTS: Tag inside says 34/30 (see picture)
The jacket has two (2) zippered breast pockets. Padded shoulders & elbows. Zippered cuffs. Armpit vents. Lined.
Pants have padded butt & hip. Padded knees. Two (2) zippered front pockets and one (1) zippered rear. Lined.
They are brown with reflective gold & silver striping on arms and legs. There is some light scuffing around pockets, but no tears or scuffs. They never had to fulfill the purpose for their purchase. That is protecting me from an allergy of breaking out in a rash when my skin comes in contact with asphalt at 65 mph! They are still supple, but would highly recommend a good rubbing with Neatsfoot Oil, or Mink Oil. These are the only two recommended oils to maintain breathing of the leather, and they do breath. No room here for a tale of crossing the Mohave Desert in 120 degrees, but I'm glad I was wearing them! I wore them over regular street clothes; jeans and shirt, sometimes sweater.
